Holistic Psychiatry
It is common and reasonable to come to psychiatric care with some trepidation. We will work together to create individualized goals that help you feel more, not less, like yourself. I treat to a response, not to a dose. I work with lower doses to minimize side effects and complementary treatments, including herbs, supplements, nutritional medicine, and meditation/mindfulness whenever appropriate.
Integrative Treatment
Mental health does not exist in a vacuum, and pharmaceuticals are not our only available tool. My visits are longer than industry standard because I am interested in more than just a medication response; listening and curiosity are the most important tools I bring into sessions.
While western medicine can be useful, I have completed advanced training in herbalism, nutritional medicine, IFS, somatics, and meditation/mindfulness techniques. Working outside of the strict bounds of insurance company requirements allows me to incorporate these techniques more fluidly into sessions as appropriate.
Therapeutic Approach
The field of psychiatry has a troubled history of oppression and violence. Always bearing this in mind, I work from a trauma-informed, anti-racist, intersectional lens. I am continually questioning the power dynamics inherent in the provider-patient relationship and in my privilege as a white person from the global north. All of your parts, and all of your identities, are welcome here without judgment.
Collaborative Care
I do not believe in a top-down, hierarchical approach to health care. You are the expert in your own experience and well-being, and you and I will develop any treatment plans together. When appropriate, I am happy to collaborate with your therapist or other healthcare providers to ensure that we are all working together to help you feel supported.
